Birth of the Blues 1926
Ray Henderson (m) B.G. De Sylva, Lew Brown (w)
From show “George White’s Scandals of 1926”
In the show, Harry Richman was at the Pearly Gates and had to defend blues music as being just as valid as classical music to Beethoven and Liszt. The arguments he uses include “Memphis Blues,” “St. Louis Blues,” and even “Rhapsody in Blue” with words. Naturally Richman wins his case.
