Bidin’ My Time 1937
George Gershwin (m) Ira Gershwin (w)
From show “Girl Crazy”
This is sung by a quartet out west and is meant to be a languid introduction to the simple life out there. Originally, Ira writes, the verse had 16 bars and the refrain 32—far too long. It might also be the only Broadway song accompanied by harmonica, ocarina, Jew’s harp, and tin flute!
