Lover 1932
Richard Rodgers (m) Lorenz Hart (w)
From the film “Love Me Tonight”
This a throw-away song sung by Jeanette MacDonald as she tries to keep control over her horse and carriage, replete with sexual innuendoes. When it caught on, the lyrics had to be adjusted. Peggy Lee’s 1952 recording made it a smash hit 30 years later.
