Body and Soul 1930
Edward Heyman, Robert Sour, Frank Eyton, Johnny Green (m/w)
From show “Three’s a Crowd”
This song was meant for a Broadway show that never saw daylight. Gertrude Lawrence convinced a British bandleader to record it and it was a smash. Howard Dietz purchased the song for “Three’s a Crowd” and Libby Holman introduced it. The audience did not react as expected, and a new arrangement was written and audience reaction was gratifying. One or two lines had to be cleaned up for commercial recordings and one or two more changes had to be made for British audiences.
