Limehouse Blues 1924
Philip Braham (m) Douglas Furber (w)
From shows “A to Z” (1921, London) and “Andre Charlot’s Revue of 1924)

This was sung by Teddie Gerard in the London revue in 1921 and by Gertrude Lawrence in the 1924 revue. It is recreated by Julie Andrews in the film “Star!” (1968)

Notes by Frank Behrens

Alex Hassan, a wonderfully-talented Falls Church, Virginia-based pianist who has long been a fan of Cy’s music and who can sight-read almost anything, notes that this particular solo composition of Cy’s is so difficult that there are passages in it where Alex simply can’t figure out what it was Cy was trying to do.  Unfortunately, Cy never recorded this piece, so we must simply leave it to other pianists’ creativity to divine.
